How to create pretty spaces effortlessly

When we moved into our new apartment, a few months back, for the longest it did not feel like a home. We missed our rented place, which we had decorated with a lot of heart and just couldn’t get ourselves to accept this was home now.

I took it upon myself to change this feeling by adding those special touches to this apartment so that it would feel a little bit ours, every day. I am sharing some home decor ideas that I looked up here and there to style the little nooks and corners of the apartment.

Styling shelves

Shelves tend to attract junk organically - you know what I mean. But, if you are consciously deciding to style it with elements that reflect your home’s personality, shelves can be a real game changer. Match tones with tones and metals with metals to get a well-put together look. Also, ensure the visual weight of elements on each side is balanced for a soothing uniformity.

Use the walls for plants

Using plants is one of the most popular home decor ideas, but I attempted this for the first time ever only in this apartment. The trend right now is to opt for really tall tropical plants in corners but you can stagger the look by using the walls for smaller planters followed by a rather chunky indoor tropical plant on the floor.

Flowers at unusual places

Never underestimate the power of fresh flowers. They do amazingly well on table tops in the corners but put them at unusual places for some raised eyebrows. Every now and then, I use an old ceramic tea jug to place some flowers on our kitchen counter. I know, such home decor ideas make little sense when you hear them but they do offer a unique personal touch to spaces.

Style the table top

No home styling is complete without some efforts on the table tops.Remember all eyes will be on your table even during the most intense conversations. A little tray can ensure your decor elements do not wander off to corners. Stack together candles, some personal collectibles, coasters and the like to create a carefully curated look.

Create a gallery

I have dedicated a post to this one, if you’d remember. A gallery is the most honest reflection of the people living in a house. Our’s is full of elements that reflect what R and I have collected over the year. A detailed post on how to style it is here, if you want to take a look.

I would love to hear from you your tips on how to style those little spaces at home. Do leave your comments in the section below.
