Making a case for the shoulder baring trend
The shoulders have seen some sun in the past few seasons (fashion seasons, I mean). Off-shoulders, cold shoulders, bardot necklines, tubes, you name it and women all over are going gaga over them. It's like we've had our eyes fixed on shoulder baring outfits of every kind.
In fact, off-shoulders was even named one of 2016’s best selling trend by Edited. Trend forecasts also predict off-shoulders to go from a drizzle to a torrential downpour in 2017.
However, this flavour of the season, no matter how popular, may often be uncomfortable for some (a recent discovery I made). Off-shoulders are notorious for riding up, not to mention the embarrassment of having to pull them down every now and then in public.
So how did shoulder baring continue to be such a popular idea for so many of us?
If you ask me, the trend has re-invented itself with time. While earlier it was just the off-shoulders, now we have interesting variations like cold shoulders, the cooler cousin to the rescue. Then there are one-shoulder numbers! Some spunk and sexiness offered with control - no slipping, no sliding. Let us also not forget the most recent spin to a shoulder show by way of the half-up and half-down option. There you go, it's variety for the win right there.
Moreover, shoulders don't discriminate among body types and “it is also the only part of a woman’s body that doesn’t age,” as pointed out by Sarah Ruston, Net-a-Porter’s vice president of global buying. That’s an obvious win-win combo right there!
We have variety, body positiveness and agelessness combined into one trend. Of course we are going to cling on!
Maybe even the Klingons will cling on! But you don't care about that, do you?
