Inexpensive ways to make staycations special

Disclaimer: If there’s any chance you can hop on a plane or train and escape somewhere for a holiday, (even for a little while) always do that. However, if travel is not on the cards, sulk not and make the best of your stay at home.

Staycation is usually not my thing, but some extended weekends (just like this one) or even longer holidays just end up being planned around the home. So, here are a few inexpensive and easy ways to pull off such days with a certain amount of ‘Ok-this-wasn’t-a-disaster’ feeling.

Indulge

That face pack or sheet mask you bought and never found time to use might still be lying around in your drawers, remember? Use your stay at home to indulge in some guilt-free 'me-time'. These are also great times to try some beauty recipes from your mom’s diaries (you know the haldi, besan kinds). I always find trying such things a very rewarding experience that leaves me feeling special.

Costs: Rs 100 face pack/sheet masks onwards

Pamper

Imagine all the little things that hotels do to make your stay brilliant. With little effort and no costs at all, you can easily recreate them at home. Lighting a simple scented candle in the bathroom or spritzing your towels with perfume or maybe adding a few drops of lavender oil on your pillows can induce a sense of self pampering, right at home.

Costs: Candles Rs 100 onwards. Perfume/body mists for towels: Rs 100 onwards. Essential oils (lavender oil): Rs 200 onwards

Unwind

Take time off to do things you usually do not find time for on a weekday. Could it be cooking? Gardening? Reading? Painting? There are a ton of activities we pine to get to all week but are never able to due to our schedules. Break away from routine and get to them to feel relaxed vibes. Unwind as you please.

Costs: Absolutely nothing, unless you are buying something to support your activity.

Left to myself, this is what I’ll be up to all day. And, please add a generous dose of sleep to all this. In the madness of busy schedules we often forget how easy, simple and inexpensive it is to enjoy an indulgent experience at at home.

PS: I have reported the minimum price at which the products I mentioned in the post are available . The idea is to not even spend that much and use or re-purpose things lying around at home ;)
